Agtech Action | Week of 11.27.21 - 12.03.21
Agtech Action is a weekly newsletter highlighting current events in the world of agtech, and some light-hearted commentary
The first commercial flight flown on sustainable aviation fuel from corn and sugar-based food scraps, another partnership in between a startup and a key ag strategic and hunger has worsened in Latin America according to the UN. The US and China unveil an emissions deal, the latest global CEA census is out, and farmers share perspectives with policymakers. Antibiotics in livestock could release more soil carbon and the other strategic reserve that is being tapped to deal with demand (maple syrup).
The theme of the agtech week—strategic alignment—encapsulates the activities between startups and strategics, the public and private sector, who recognize that tackling issues in food and ag is easier with help. I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday and enjoy this week’s agtech news.

Theme of the Agtech Week: Strategic Alignment
I’ve noticed a few things this week in agtech: many more partnerships. From ADM’s acquisition of Sojaprotein to meet plant-based protein demand, to Indigo and Landus working to address farmer profitability through digital ag, and airlines banding together to push sustainable aviation fuel; it is clear that these organizations, groups, and others, recognize the importance of strategic alignment with partners, and in some cases, competitors. Strategic alignment can take many forms, from acquisition, partnerships, to MOUs, cooperative agreements or simply aligning resources. The key here is that 2, or more, organizations (or nations in the US/China emissions example) are orienting time, resources and direction towards a common cause. And agrifoodtech startups could take a lesson from this: strategic alignment with another organization, even competitor, may save time, money and resources rather than trying to build it on your own.
An exciting time to be in food and agriculture and I am eager to see what results from these strategic alignments. Have a great weekend!
